Mr. The Valdosta Times, Monday, June 30, 1947 SOCIETY NEWS Office Phone 2479 ELIZABETH ASHLEY, Editor Freeman Nuptials Spoken In the Strickland Memorial Chapel Choosing a gown of frosted white faille and a sheer veil of Imported illusion to accentuate her dainty, beauty, Miss Virginia Ann Freeman, daughter of Mrs. DeWitt Winthrop Freeman, became the bride of Dawson Tisdel Kilcrease of Waycross, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dawson Clicrease also of Waycross.

The impressive double ring ceremony was performed by the Reverend Herbert L. Laws, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Valdosta, in the picturesque chapel of the Strickland Memorfal building at six-thirty o'clock on Saturday afternon, June 28, in the presence of an assemblage of friends, relatives and out-oftown guests. A beautiful musical program presented by Mrs. Lloyd Greer, organist; consisted of "Theme from Tschaikowsky's Sixth Symphony," and during the ceremony she softely played "Calm as the Night" by Bohm. The ever favorite 'Because" was sweetly sung by Miss Georgia Smith, soloist, and the traditional wedding marches were used at processional and recessional.

The bridal tableau formed before the satin draped pulpit which was festooned with feathery fern and centered with a low arrangement of white gladioli and white asters. Behind the stand was a seven branched candelabra holding gleaming tapers that was silhouetted against a background of palms. Satin draped altar rails on each side of the pulpit were garlanded with sprays of plumosa a fern as were the wall light fixtures and fern WAS banked in the niches which held burning candles. Just inside of the altar rails and in front of the satin draped pulpit were two satin covered columns entwined with filmy sprays of plumosa fern from the top of which fell cascades of white flowers and satin ribbons further emphasizing the green and white bridal motif. Preceding the ceremony the ruests were seated by ushergroomsmen Charles Hatcher and James Lott, both of Waycross.

The groom chose as his best man, his brother, Robert Kilcrease of Waycross. Miss Martha Ann Parramore, maid of honor, was attired in a striking floor length mint green model of imported net enhanced by an arm bouquet of yellow glad floretes tied and showered with yellow and mint green ribbons. The net bodice was attached to the full net skirt by a snug fitting peplum of exquisite embroidered net that extended longer in the back giving a long torso effect. Over the waist she wore an embroidered net beloro jacket that featured small covered buttons down the front and bracelet length sleeves. Miss Mikell Lovett, young daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. Jack Lovett, and niece of the bride, served as junior bridesmaid. Her flattering long frock was of yellow taffeta and net. The long tatfeta bodice pointed at the waistline and was attached to a full skirtt of yellow net. Long matchIng taffeta gauntlets, a bouquet of carnations tinted pale green and encircled by a frill of yellow satin ribbons and showered with matchIng ribbons attached to green carnations, completed her pleasing costume.

The bride was given in marriage her brother, Holmes Freeman of this city. Her snow white wedding gown of faille featured a bodice that was attached to a sheer marquisette yoke embroidered in satin braid design. The long fitted sleeves pointed over the hand and the bodice was scalloped onto an ultra full skirt that widened in the back to form graceful flowing train. Her three-tiered finger-tip veil of sheer French illusion fell from a tiara of orange blossoms. She carried a dainty bride's bouquet fashioned of valley lilies centered with a white orchid and showered with white satin streamers caught witth lilies of the valley.

Mrs. Freeman chose for her daughter's wedding a handsome grey chiffon dinner gown designed with tucks across the waist and sleeves and with which she used a corsage of sweetheart roses. The groom's mother, Mrs. Kilcrease, wore a stunning self-trimmed dinner gown of iceberg blue satin-back-crepe fashioned on the satin side which featured a gracefully draped skirt and a square neckline. Her flowers were pale pink carnations.

Following the ceremony Mrs. Freeman honored couple at a reception held in the parlor of the Strickland Memorial. Mrs. Frank Riley and Mrs. Jack Lovett of Waycross, sister of the bride, greeted the guests at the entrance and conducted them to Mrs.

Freeman and Mrs. Kilcrease who stood in the reception hall which was attractively decorated Bayless-Mathews Marriage of Cordial Interest Glenda Louise Bayless, daughter of Mrs. John A. Bayless and the late John A. Bayless of Melrose, Florida, and Hugh McLendon Mathews, son of Mr.

and Mrs. J. E. Mathews of Valdosta, were quietly married on June twenty-seventh at .10, a.m. at the home of the bride's mother) Dr.

George E. Farrar, officiated, using the double ceremony. The bride was becomingly in pastel blue with navy accessorles. Her corsage was a lavender orchid. Immediately following the ceremony the young couple left for a wedding trip to south Florida and on their return will make their home at Lake Swan, Melrose.

Mrs. Mathews is a graduate of Melrose High School and attended Massey Business College in Jacksonville. Mr. Mathews, a graduate of Valdosta High School, attended North Georgia College. He served three years in the Merchant Marine during the war.

Emory Junior Dames Club Holds Meeting The regular monthly meeting of of the Emory Junior College Dames Club was held at the home of Mrs. Martha Ward on Thursday, June 26, with the President, Mrs. Sue Rentz, presiding. During the business session minutes. from the previous meeting were read by Mrs.

Sandy Hackney, secretary. It was announced that there will be a picnic Sunday, July 20, for the members and their husbands with Jerry Tinley and Sandy Hackney in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Martha Ward was elected Vice-President to succeed Mrs. John May.

Following the business session the Rev. Clifton White, guest speaker of the evening, gave an interesting talk on the life of Chopin and illustrated his enlightening discussion by playing a number of Chopin's famous recordings. The hostess, aesisted by Mrs. Sue served cake with a black ribbons. Her accessories were black patent and she used the orchid from her bouquet at her shoulder.

Out-of-town guests included besides the groom's parents and brother, Mr. Dana Kilcrease of AtMr. and Mrs. Charles Hatcher, Mr. and Mrs.

James Lott, Mr. and Mrs. James Stewart, and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Paulk.

with gorgeous bouquets of Picardy gladioli. The bride's book, kept by Mrs. D. W. Freeman, was also in the reception hall.

Before the mantel in the parlor which was banked with native greenery interspersed with gleaming tapers that illuminated the scene, stood the receiving line composed of the bridal pair and their wedding party. The bride's table presented a beautiful picture overlaid with a handsome imported lace cloth. Centering the table was the large three-tiered wedding cake heavily embossed in gardenias and valley lilies. On the top tier of the white cake was a china miniature bride and groom standing beneath a four -way arch. The cake was poson a double ruffle of silk maline.

Antique branched silver. candelabra holding unshaded tapers that were tied and showered with sprays of fern, satin ribbons and valley lilies were placed at each end of the table. After the couple cut the first. slice of cake the table was presided over by Mrs. T.

C. Ashley who cut the cake which was served by Mrs. Robert Winter, and Mrs. Homer Eberhardt. Mrs.

John Langdale served punch from a table decorated similar to that of the bride's table, and during the reception Mrs. Hansell Paine presented an appropriate musical program. Artistically decorated individual cakes were served with ice cream. Those assisting in caring for the guests were Misses Laurie White, Leona Redles, Frances Paine, Constance Converse, Edwina Roberts, Adair Myddelton, Laura Converse, Vera Wilson, Nancy Campbell and Helen Branch. After mingling with their guests Mr.

and Mrs. Kilcrease left for their wedding trip to an undisclosed destination and upon their return they will be in their newly completed home in Waycross. The groom is affiliated in business with his father. For traveling Mrs. Kilcrease changed to a white gabardine tailored suit the coat of which featured a cut-away effect.

Personal Mention Mr. and Mrs. Howard Dasher and daughter, Miss Lorena Dasher, left this morning by motor for Tuxedo, N. C. where Lorena will enter Greystone Camp for eight weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. Dasher will return the middle of the week. Mrs. Gordon H.

Smith returned by plane to her home in Delores, Colo. after spending a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H.

Henderson. Mrs. Smith flew here last Thursday to attend the funeral services of her uncle, Raymond J. Taylor. Mrs.

George W. Dunlap and daughter, Ann Shepherd, expect to leave the first of the week for their home in Roek -Hill, after a visit with Mrs. Dunlap's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.

S. Myddleton and family. Miss Sadie Collins arrived Saturday from Washington, D. C. for a visit with her sister, Mrs.

P. E. Powell. Mrs. Powell and daughter, Miss Ola Lee Powell, accompanied by Miss Collins left today for a ten day visit with Mrs.

and Mrs. Chester Rodgers returned the past weekend from their wedding trip spent at Daytona Beach, and Orlando, Florida. They are at home to their friends in the Warlick apartments on Central Mr. Nat Smith of Harrodsburg, is stopping at the Dayton Hotel and will remain here during the tobacco season.
